NovaTuff PC-450 is tough and flexible protective coating for concrete and metal. NovaTuff PC-450 is a 100% solid Polyamidoamine epoxy resin used in applications where chemical and corrosion resistance is required.
NovaTuff PC-450 is highly resistant to acids, solvents, caustics, hydrocarbons, freshwater, and saltwater. It was developed to withstand extreme corrosive and abrasive conditions with excellent outdoor durability.
NovaTuff PC-450 is excellent as an anti-corrosive and protective coating for tanks, pipelines, cooling towers, vats, floors, and steel or concrete structures. NovaTuff PC-450 retains a resilient body, even after final cure. It can even be used under constant spillage, immersion conditions or highly abrasive applications. Designed to protect steel and concrete that is submerged in saltwater such as offshore oil equipment and other marine applications.
Surfaces should be free of rust, mill scale, oil, paint, films, grease, soluble salts, and other contaminants. Sand blasting to white metal is necessary in some cases. Smooth trowel concrete should be etched to provide a profile for optimal adhesion.
Latinate and other loosely bound materials should be removed to provide a solid bonding surface. The preparation procedures above are general guidelines. Detailed preparation methods are available through SSPC at or 412-281-2331 or NACE at or 281-228-6200.
The mixing of Part A and B is very important! Material is supplied in two containers as a unit.
Agitate part B separately in container supplied before pouring. NovaTuff PC-450 has a (1:1) mixing ratio of 1 part “B” to 1 part “A”. Use a jiffy mixer to thoroughly combine both parts, mixing for at least 5 minutes. Allow idle activation time for at least 10 minutes.
If thinning is necessary, use no more than 1/2 pint of Xylene per 2 gallon of epoxy. Thinner can only be added after activation process is completed. Thinning increases possibility of sag and can extend cure time.
Apply NovaTuff PC-450 with a brush, 3/8″ nap roller or airless spray equipment. Caution! Without the use of aggregate, NovaTuff PC-450 is slippery when wet. Apply only when air temperature is 40° F and rising.
DRY FILM APPLICATION:
|To Yield Dry Film Of||Apply Sq. Ft. Per Gallon|
|16 mils||100 Sq. Ft.|
|8 mils||200 Sq. Ft.|
DO NOT apply product heavier than (8 wet mils) on vertical surfaces. Heavy coats may be applied (up to 16 mils) on horizontal surfaces without danger of bubbling or pinholes in film. For heavier film, apply additional coats. Additional coats must be applied as soon as the surface is tack free or within 36 hours.
Application equipment should be cleaned immediately with Xylene. Use white vinegar to clean hands and skin. Do not allow NovaTuff PC-450 to remain on tools! Once it sets and is cured, it is extremely difficult to remove.
